Re: Flood

I like the ending, very good. I trip up at these lines each time - and look at your nose changed to an owl-like hook, on gravity’s little claw. The hunters of the air, their spoiling, scentless wait as I speak for a while then stop, Should there not be some continuity between the stanzas, a semicolo...

Colour

All things were black and white with my father; it took some years of the family’s clamour before he agreed to acquire colour. The promise of watching Love Thy Neighbour in all its petty-thoughted jaundice; or maybe there was a special offer, as a few days before Princess Anne’s marriage a van pulls...

Re: Cinders

Thanks for the comments. It's a mystery to me how I ever came to write this. I think I imagined Princess Di morphing into Joan Collins. And somehow, I acquired the knowledge that in ancient times a day ended when the sun rose in the morning, rather than midnight. And somehow, I decided this informat...

Re: Green Friday

Thanks, Jules. I'm a bit pissed off with Extinction Rebellion at the moment. I went on the Green Friday protest and was surprised at how much care was taken not to offend the great British public. A week later I find that in London XR protestors are laid down in front of a Labour campaign bus. Who n...

Re: Sleepless

. Hi ray, thanks for the read. Wouldn't disagree with you for a moment about the press, but I simply find Corbyn utterly underwhelming. Four years of an open goal, and he's still in his shed looking for his boots. they will still keep on doffing the caps That's the killer. Regards, Not . You find C...

Re: Death of a Poetess

v2 Her last candle Dwindled in task upon the table - not sure "in task" adds anything. While she sat at her typewriter As she had, these many days Dotting her floor Lay crumpled poems Like the dead flies Dappling her sill Each folded edge A leg curling inwards Divulging no secret Of its succumbing ...

Re: Between the Lines

It sounds a bit like a journey through one or two poetry forums I'm familiar with. Below, jade slopes tasked valley floors with aiding it to find its door for time is wont to storm the will and skew a future for the thrill. Don't understand what that's all about. The penultimate line's rhythm is off...

Cinders

In the last days she whispered confidences, upturned herself, poured secrets into his receptive shells, complained she’d been caught between this rock and a place that was never hard enough. Laughed until teardrops spattered her cheeks, upon rouge and lipstick applied in coarse patches. Curling her ...

Re: Seven Centuries in the Making (V2)

Yeah, I think that's a lot better. I wonder about reversing the order in the 3rd stanza -

The old warrior yielded away from us,
his handsome headdress spread
along the rustic floor.
I'm relieved by destiny having dealt
my household a winning hand.

Yet there's a gloom....

Yeah, I draw solace from two things. My grandchildren live "on the continent" and I've reached an age where the finishing line is in sight.

Re: Sleepless

Hmm, if the unlamented great saint is meant to be Corbyn, then I think you're being very harsh. The press in this country are an utter disgrace and the people who read it are no better. Given the choice between a man of integrity and honesty, and a serial liar, charlatan and racist with a huge sense...

Re: Seven Centuries in the Making

Hello Miles. Enjoyed the read. I wonder if you need "Hammered", it gives me the impression of a vertical attack, when I imagine wind as being more horizontal.
having landed here by traversing
the treacherous seas of Metropolis. - these lines seem like an unnecessary intrusion as well.

a trace of guilt like a smirk on a face, - I like that, be a good point to end on, but I shouldn't wish to lose Homeric Derek. There's some minor errors - Wakefield's. "mobile phones were invented". And of course I'm sure the original artist would have an apostrophe at the end of CONVICTS'.

Green Friday

There aren’t that many rebels gathered compared to back in September. Perhaps climate protestors are daunted by the abrupt change in the weather. Rowan is taking some photos, I’m mostly obscured by a placard saying Christmas Shouldn’t Cost The Earth. But we are not anti-Christmas, our leader of the ...

Thanks, not. I'm not really looking for domestic tension - I get enough of that in real life. I felt the need to make it clear this was a friend because some comments seemed to imply "she" was a partner. I always think of counters as belonging in shops, not kitchens. I like the mention of fibre, but...
