Exercises

Post by bodkin » Thu Nov 07, 2013 7:37 pm

On the subject of exercises I shall post one at least once a month, and Ros will put challenges between them, so there should be a new poetry prompt on the forum at least every two weeks...

Also on the subject of exercises, they work better the more people take part. Each exercise will be one thread over in the Poetry Exercises forum, and it is quite enjoyable to have plenty of people pitching in to do the exercise, and responding to each other's effort.

On the unrelated note of exercises. The idea is that they get you writing, provide practice, and sometimes take you somewhere where you wouldn't have gone on your own. You should get a little out of your comfort zone, and not be too worried about whether you produce anything polished, accomplished, or even good. So don't sweat over them. Write something; edit it once; slap it on the board; and then hit the showers

Finally, let me just mention something about exercises. The exercise forum is not a critique forum, so please comment on other people's efforts, but again don't try too hard. A quick note about to say you like X; aren't sure about Y; wonder whether they considered Z -- is all it takes. Sometimes it makes somebody's day, and reading other people's attempts is part of the benefit, it is sometimes amazing to what different places two people can take the same idea...

So the first exercise will be early next week, probably Sunday as that is when I get back from a small trip.

...eo!

...ound sound!
Rosencrantz: What are you playing at? Guildenstern: Words. Words. They're all we have to go on.

Hi all, I have put a first exercise up, here: http://poetsgraves.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... 20#p156877

Please have a go, and I will pitch in myself as soon as I find a spare moment.
